Worming

Worming advice is changing due to rapidly growing resistance to the drugs used in wormers.

There are no new or alternative drugs on the horizon so we all need to do what we can to ensure that the drugs we have continue to work as effectively as possible for as long as possible.

We strongly recommend using faecal work egg counts, tapeworm saliva tests and an annual worm risk assessment as part of your worming programme, as well as good pasture management to reduce your horse’s worm burden. By doing this, and working with our vets or SQPs, you can ensure that you only worm your horse when necessary and only with the appropriate wormer.
